SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Sonnenstrahl Papers consist of the original manuscripts from her book, Deaf Artists in America published by DawnSign Press. The papers include correspondence with various artists, correspondence with DawnSign Press, faxes, e-mails, magazine and newspaper clippings, biographies, rough drafts of each chapter, handwritten notes, TTY transcripts, articles, pamphlets, advertisements, and periodicals. There was also a large number of photographs in the collection which are now located in the photo file. The dates range from 1887 to 2002, with the bulk being 1998-2002 while Sonnenstrahl was writing the book. There is only one personal item in the collection-a letter from her brother in 1983. Two folders focus on Sonnenstrahl's professional activities: Spotlight on Deaf Artists and Speaking Engagements. The remainder focuses on her book. This is an excellent collection for the Deaf Art Historian or Buffs.
