Ione C. Dibble BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Ione Chapman Dibble was born on January 28, 1902 in Ansonia, Connecticut. She grew up in Massachusetts. The cause of her deafness is ambiguous: it is believed that she became deaf either at birth or from a bout of spinal meningitis. She started school at Clarke School for the Deaf in Massachusetts where she attended for two years. She then transferred to the American School for the Deaf at Hartford, Connecticut. She attended their oral classes for 12 years. She entered Gallaudet College in 1920 and left in 1923, never graduating. Dibble moved to Denver, Colorado where she lived until she died in 1988. SCOPE AND CONTENT The Ione C. Dibble collection contains information about various funds and fundraising activities at Gallaudet College, papers of the Gallaudet College Alumni Association, some news clippings, papers from her undergraduate years at Gallaudet, and some papers of the Phi Kappa Zeta Sorority. The papers date from 1930 to 1966 with the bulk dating from 1889 to 1964. The most interesting items in this collection are papers related to the experience of women students at Gallaudet in the early 1920s. FOLDER LIST
