Biographical Sketch

1896     Born in Washington, D.C.

1913     Graduated from Kendall School

1913     Admitted to Preparatory Class at Gallaudet College.

1918     Graduated from Gallaudet College. Received a B.S. degree in Chemistry.

1918     Accepted job in the War Risk Bureau (now Veterans Bureau)

1920     Assistant to the Division Chief of the Department of Justice

1952     Transferred to the U.S. Court House. Became Deputy Marshal.
1956     At age 60, retired after 38 years with the Justice Department.

1978     January 9, died at age 82.

 

Scope and Content

William Ulen Lynch spent 38 years working for the Department of Justice in various capacities. Some of his job titles included assistant to Division Chief, Accountant, Auditor, and Field Deputy Marshal.  Lynch graduated from Kendall School in 1913 and Gallaudet College in 1918.

            The Lynch collection consists of personal mementos dating from 1911-1931. The collection includes a silk scarf, night shirts, glasses, a gold shaving kit, an ashtray set, two cameras, and a dental instrument set. Some of Lynch’s jewelry can also be found, specifically a brooch, an initialized locket, a Department of Justice pin, and three watches.

            Lynch also collected Order of Eastern Star (OES) medals. OES is an organization for women relatives of Masons who have achieved at least the degree of Master of Mason. OES medals from various states can be found in the collection.

            While Lynch attended Kendall School, he saved his report cards from 1911-1913. The report cards along with his telephone directory and a few short correspondence were saved.
